XTool MetalFab 800W Laser Welder: weld, cut and clean with one handheld system
The xTool MetalFab 800W is a handheld fiber-laser welder built for shops that spend most of their day on sheet metal and light fabrication. The 800W laser delivers strong, clean welds up to 4 mm in stainless and carbon steel, with a heat-affected zone of 0.05 mm or less, so thin parts stay flat and need far less grinding. Change the tip and the same torch cuts steel by hand and strips rust and paint.
It is the compact, lower-power model in the MetalFab line: easier to place on a standard 220V shop circuit, and ready to grow into a full cut-and-weld cell with the optional CNC Cutter.

What you need to run it
- A dedicated 220–240V circuit (13.5 A full load; 15 A or higher circuit)
- Assist gas: argon or nitrogen at 99.99% purity, 15–30 L/min at 0.1–0.2 MPa (argon is required for titanium)
- OD6+ laser safety goggles for everyone in the work area, a trained operator and a controlled area
- Ventilation or fume extraction for welding and cleaning
Laser safety
The MetalFab is a Class 4 laser system for professional use. The beam is invisible infrared, and standard welding helmets do not protect against it. Operators need laser-rated eye protection, training on Class 4 lasers (ANSI Z136.1) and on welding operations (ANSI Z49.1), and a controlled work area. Training is the employer's responsibility, and xTool provides laser safety training videos and documents.
Add the CNC Cutter
Turn the welder into a cut-and-weld workstation. The MetalFab CNC Cutter is sold separately as an add-on, or as a kit with the welder. It adds a 24 × 24 in (610 × 610 mm) cutting bed, speeds up to 400 mm/s, ±0.1 mm accuracy, dual cameras with smart nesting, and pass-through for longer stock. With the 800W, burr-free CNC cuts reach 8 mm carbon steel and galvanized sheet, 3 mm stainless steel, and 2 mm aluminum and brass.

Frequently asked questions
Is the 800W enough, or do I need the 1200W?
If most of your metal is under 4 mm and your CNC cutting stays under 8 mm carbon steel, the 800W covers it. Step up to the 1200W for 4–5 mm steel, 4 mm aluminum, 10 mm CNC cutting, or when you use filler wire every day.
Is a laser weld as strong as TIG or MIG?
Within its rated thickness and with the right settings, yes. xTool's welds were SGS-tested to ISO 15614-1. For heavy structural work over 5 mm, TIG or MIG are still the right tools, and many shops run a laser alongside them.
What power does it need?
220–240V, about 19 A at full load. It is not a standard 110V machine, so confirm your outlet and breaker before delivery.
Do I need a CNC table?
No. The welder works on its own for welding, handheld cutting and cleaning. The CNC Cutter is an optional add-on for automated cutting.
